Account deactivation
An authorized estate representative can contact Bereavement Support to deactivate the account.
Subscription stoppage without legal paperwork
Subscriptions and recurring deliveries can be stopped without full legal documentation.
No digital legacy planning support
Amazon has no proactive planning tool; every request is handled reactively after death.
No access to purchased digital content
Kindle books, Prime Video purchases and digital music are tied to the account and cannot be transferred.
Overview
Amazon does not have a digital legacy planning tool, legacy contact or memorialization option. Its bereavement process is reactive. An authorized estate representative needs to contact the dedicated Bereavement Support team and supply legal documents to access or close an account. If you do not have full estate authorization, Amazon can still help terminate subscriptions, stop recurring deliveries or deactivate the account.
Full Authorization for Account Access or Closure
To obtain account details or permanently close the account without login access, you must prove you are the legal estate representative by supplying a death certificate, probate or executor documentation, a valid photo ID and the account's email or phone number.
No Access to Digital Content
Kindle books, Prime Video purchases and digital music are tied to account licenses, not personal ownership. These cannot be transferred or inherited. They are permanently lost when the account is closed.
Secure Document Deletion
Once the verification process is complete, all submitted personal documents are securely deleted.

Helpful to understand what options are available before anything happens. Wish more platforms offered legacy contacts.

The policy exists but navigating the setup is not straightforward. Could be made much more accessible.

One of the better implementations compared to other platforms. Setting up took only a few minutes.
